چکیده

The unusual properties of the bursting X-ray pulsar GRO J1744-28 are explained in terms of a low-mass X-ray binary system consisting of an evolved stellar companion transferring mass through Roche-lobe overrow onto a neutron star, implying that the inclination of the system is < 18. Interpretation of the QPO at frequency QPO = 40 Hz using the beat-frequency model of Alpar & Shaham and the measured period derivative _ P with the Ghosh & Lamb accretion-torque model implies that the persistent X-ray luminosity of the source is approximately equal to the Eddington luminosity and that the neutron star has a surface equatorial magnetic eld B eq = 4:5 10 10 (QPO =40 Hz) 1 G for standard neutron star parameters. This implies a distance to GRO J1744-28 of = 3:7 (QPO =40 Hz) 1=6 b 1=2 kpc, where b < 1 is a correction factor that depends on the orientation of the neutron star.

Hard X-Ray Spectroscopy and Pulsar Phase Analysis of the Bursting X-Ray Pulsar GRO J1744{28 with OSSE

We report OSSE observations of the bursting X-ray pulsar GRO J1744{28 made in December 1995 and January 1996 at hard X-ray energies > 35 keV. The pulse pro le of the persistent (i.e. non-bursting) pulsar emission is t with a sinusoid in the energy range 35{90 keV. Residuals reveal a second harmonic amplitude of 3:0 0:5% of the fundamental. The distribution of time intervals between bursts measu...

A strange star model for GRO J 1744 - 28

A model is suggested for the bursting x-ray pulsar, GRO J1744-28, where the compact object of the pulsar is proposed to be a strange matter star with crusts. It is suggested that two envelope crusts shield the two polar caps of an accreting strange stars owing to strong polar-cap magnetic fields. GRO J1744-28 might not have a unified crust, but two polar crusts. Bursts are the result of phase t...

The unusal hard x-ray burster GRO J1744-28 recently discovered by the Compton Gamma-ray Observatory (GRO) can be modeled as a strange star with a dipolar magnetic field ≤ 10 11 Gauss. When the accreted mass of the star exceeds some critical mass, its crust may break, resulting in conversion of the accreted matter into strange matter and release of energy. Subsequently, a fireball may form and e...

On the nature of SMC X - 1

The 0.71 s X-ray pulsar SMC X-1 has some distinct features from other X-ray pulsars. It maintained a stable spin-up though in X-rays both low-and high-intensity states have been observed. An X-ray burst was discovered from SMC X-1, and was probably generated by an instability in the accretion flow. Using the modified magnetically threaded accretion disk theory, we have estimated the magnetic mo...
